Lake-George
is officially named the Walter F. George Lake, for U.S. Senator Walter F. George (1878-1957). It's located on the Chattahoochee River on the border of Georgia and Alabama. The lake is also known by the unofficial name of Lake Eufaula, particularly on the Alabama side. Lake George offers approximately 650 miles of shoreline and a variety of activities from fishing and boating to camping and hiking. The lake is protected by the US Army Corp of Engineers, along with other lands around the lake, including the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, Lakepoint State Park (Alabama,) and George T Bagby State Park in Georgia. There are four campgrounds located at Lake George: Bluff Creek, Cotton Hill, Hardridge Creek and White Oak Creek. Campgrounds include water and electric. Camping, fishing, boating, and other water sports, are the most popular activities at the lake, but there are also picnicking facilities, hiking trails, horseback riding and other recreational opportunities in the area. There are lots of places of historical interest near Lake George, including historic plantations and homes of the nearby towns. Kolomoki State Park is a short drive from Lake George, and is home to the largest Indian mound east of the Mississippi River.

Northeast Georgia, along the coast, has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The Atlantic Ocean greatly affects this region of the state's weather. Winter is characterized by mild temperatures and very little snowfall and usually last only through December and January. Many summer days the temperature exceeds 90 degrees F. Tornadoes and tropical cyclones are common in Georgia, although plenty of warning is generally given for these types of storms. Autumns are sunny and cool, and September and October are the driest months. Precipitation, in the way of rain, is otherwise spread throughout the year and is moderate to heavy.
