Blue-Ridge is a small city located in the far northern edge of Georgia in Fannin County. As of the 2000 census, the population was 1,210. The charming town of Blue Ridge was once an upscale health resort, known for its' pure mineral waters. The town was founded in 1886 when the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad came to town, and soon became a center for business and trade. The whole region is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Georgia. Known for its' stunning vistas, Appalachian Trail, Lake Blue Ridge and the Toccoa River, the area abounds with outdoor recreational opportunities. Enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, boating, kayaking, swimming and more. Downtown Blue Ridge offers antique shops, specialty shops and restaurants. It also hosts several seasonal festivals throughout the year. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway connects the town of Blue Ridge and McCaysville along the beautiful Toccoa River. Autumn is an especially scenic time to ride the train. The historic railroad depot remains a focal point in town and Blue Ridge City Park is a gathering place for picnics, festivals and a playground for children. Other attractions include the historic Fannin County Courthouse, which is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Center, and Baugh House, built in 1890 from bricks made of clay taken from the back yard of the home.
