Blue-Ridge-Lake also known as Lake Blue Ridge, is a reservoir in Fannin County in northern Georgia. The lake encompasses 3,300 acres of water and is primarily fed by the Toccoa River. It is managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Blue Ridge Lake is located within the Chattahoochee National Forest and offers swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing and picnicking. The lake is especially known for its sunfish, trout and bass. When the water is released from the dam, the river becomes a Class I-II float. Blue Ridge Lake also provides power to nearby cities. The small town of Blue Ridge is located along the lake and offers shopping, restaurants and antiquing. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway connects the town of Blue Ridge and McCaysville along the beautiful Toccoa River. Autumn is an especially scenic time to ride the train. The historic railroad depot remains a focal point in town and Blue Ridge City Park is a gathering place for picnics, festivals and a playground for children. Other attractions include the historic Fannin County Courthouse, which is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Center, and Baugh House, built in 1890 from bricks made of clay taken from the back yard of the home.

Blue Ridge Lake Weather & Climate

The Mountains, due to their mild summer temperatures, have always been a welcome escape from the heat at the lower elevations. Midsummer afternoon temperatures average only around 80 degrees at elevations of 3,000 feet or higher. Nights are crisp and cool, but seldom too cold for outdoor activities or camping. In winter, snowfall is likely most years, but ski resorts use snowmaking equipment to ensure a reliable supply. Large amounts of snow and extreme low temperatures are rare except at the highest peaks. Rainfall is common in spring and summer. In spring, storm systems that bring cold weather southward reach North Carolina less often and less forcefully than in other parts of the country. Occasional invasions of cool dry air from the north continue during the summer, but are of short duration. Fall has warm days and cool nights and is the driest period.
