Cherry-Log is located in the northwest high country of Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains. It is part of the 432-square miles that make up Gilmer County. Home of the Apple Festival, an annual event held in October, Gilmer County is the Apple Capital of Georgia. Over 600,000 bushels of apples are harvested here each year. Cherry Log is just one of the small communities located in the heart of this stunningly beautiful countryside. Gilmer County is known for its' lush forested mountains, meadows and wildflowers, and, of course, orchards and orchards of apple trees. Recreational activities abound, including mountain biking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, camping, scenic drives and much more. You'll find lots of mountain cabins, campgrounds and romantic retreats near Cherry Log. This is a rustic, tranquil area, a nature lover's paradise. There's lots of history in the area, too, from the Cherokee Indian Nation and the Trail of Tears, to the Civil War and the Great Depression. Parts of Gilmer County remained unchanged. This is what draws people to the area - the mountains, rivers and streams that seem virtually untouched by time.
